The concept of an ombudsman was developed by Norwegians, and as we move further into the 21st Century (or “Age of Information”), the concept of digital consumer rights and data privacy will be even more pervasive than ever before. Norway has one of the strongest independent institutional frameworks for IT, and is trying to push that as a competitive advantage for doing business in a global economy. Comparatively, the laws related to safeguarding mission-critical data in the United States are ad hoc, and raise more issues than they solve.
